Was sent a cable that was very clearly already opened and used. And it doesn't work. But it will cost me $10 to return and more than that in my time.

Did you know that pretty much all HDMI to HDMI cables are bidirectional (ie; doesn't matter which side you plug into the source vs. destination), but nearly all HDMI->USB-C cables are unidirectional (ie; one end is for the source of the video, while the other is for the destination/display)? It turns out that USB-C to HDMI cables are common, but HDMI to USB-C is not. That is because most monitors have HDMI as an input, not USB-C, so the cables are meant to have the USB-C end plugged in the PC (source) and the HDMI end plugged into the monitor (Destination/Display). Portable monitors, on the other hand, often just have USB-C ports for power and input, and no HDMI ports. In my case, my laptop only has one USB-C thunderbolt port, which I need for a hub to plug all of my other peripheral devices in (thumb drive, ring light, webcam, external speaker, etc.). Therefore, I could only use the HDMI port on either my hub or my laptop to attach my portable monitor. This requires either a bidirectional HDMI<->UCB-C cable, or a unidirectional "HDMI to USB-C", which is the opposite of most cables on the marketplace.I chose this cable because it CLEARLY states that it is "HDMI to USB-C", and it even states in the title that it is for a portable monitor. For my portable monitor, I need the HDMI end to plug into my laptop and the USB-C end to plug into my portable monitor. This means the video travels FROM the laptop (HDMI) *TO* the monitor (USB-C). I plugged this in directly (i.e.; not through a hub), to eliminate any potential issues with a hub. However, even when I plug the HDMI end directly to the laptop and the USB-C end to the USB-C video port on the monitor, it DOES NOT WORK. I know my monitor works fine, as I did eventually find a cable that truly is HDMI to USB-C. This cable is clearly a dud. Sigh...

This cable worked perfectly fine and supported the 2560x1440 @60hz I cared about (should have tested 3440x1440 @100hz, but forgot to, probably would work on that as well), however, it got very hot, to the point where you can't physically hold it indefinitely without causing yourself harm. I think I was able to hold it for about 20-30 seconds before I would have to let go. Didn't feel comfortable with this solution, so I returned it. While this is probably normal/expected, it would be much better if they implemented some sort of solution. I ultimately went with an Inateck dock that supported USB-C video output instead.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:Does not work with the s2 screen extender. Great quality otherwise, just didn’t work for what I needed.
