This is an excellent scanner, and does quality scans very quickly. It can be used with Ubuntu Linux as well as Windows. The page feeder works, but you have to be fairly careful how you stack the papers in the tray. Pages need to be fairly straight and stacked in one at a time. The only problem I had is that it's somewhat tricky to get the paper to feed through straight - documents scan successfully, but can end up feeding through tilted, which shows up in the final image. That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I have never tried more than eight pages at once, that appears close to the maximum you would want to place in the feeder tray. I use it in greyscaIe, low resolution mode to scan financial documents, but when I tested color and medium resolution the quality was fine. I didn't try high resolution but suspect it works well too. It also folds up to a very small footprint.

Works beautifully and made my life so much simpler and easier. Very easy to follow all instructions in using it. Extremely pleased with my purchase. I also have a 5-in-one, MFC Brother Laser Printer that I bought 6-7 years ago. I love Brother products for their quality and dependability. I am 70 years old!.

A good product with crapy documentation and poor support. the support that tries to upsell higher models.

The product setup documentation is poor. That is why most people who try to install this product return the product. initially tried to install the wifi, could not, then hooked the usb cable, the usb driver was not recognized, and it looked like it was not installed. then it pop-up. Now I tried to install the wifi. the setup guides for wps (encryption process) key setup. I am using a newer router which does not have the wps support. no button to press. being an IT expert myself, i was able to figure out and used the advanced method to configure. So far so good. the scanner is configured, scanned the document using control center. Next step was to try to use the button to scan to pc. Did not work. went to brother support on chat, and I was told oh this product does not support the button scan, that is supported by out next higher model, I need to upgrade. Instead of providing proper support the support sent my request to sales and they sent me offer to upgrade to next model. The support mention that this product does not have the feature to press the scan button to scan to pc. I received email from team lead with the upgrade offerI figured out that the support was useless. I am IT expert and thinking what will happen with a person with basic computer skills. they will never be able to configure this with wifi setup with newer routers.The ADS1000W has a feature to scan to usb. I tested that and it worked and gave me confidence that there is touch sensor on the scanner. two step process. first touch the usb led (select) and the touch the green led. This proved that the Brother support was wrong and the scan (button) sensor was working. next I hooked up a USB cable and now the USB led light was on. I had to re-configure for USB. I touch the usb led and then the green led and the scanner scanned to PCLater I disconnected my current brother network multi function printer and reconfigured the scanner for wifi. now the pc1 led light came up. This time I touched the pc1 led and then the green led and the document was scanned to pc.The scanner works however being poor documentation and poor support, a person with basic computer skills will not be able to configure. there are lot of steps missing in the setup instructions for wifi setup. poor support. the support that tries to upsell higher models. it seemed that they had no idea of the product line. and they have no phone number, the computer has to be rebooted and the support agent is lost, next connection a new agent comes in who has no clue and wants to start from zero.In summary, I will only suggest this product if you have good knowledge about the network setup or some one is going to help you.

I love this scanner so much that I have one in my office and home. I am computer challenged but found this little scanner very easy to set up and use. I use it for scanning invoices, reports, checks, and photo ids. It does a great job. The software that it comes with also offers ways to crop and adjust the scan. It recommends only loading around 5 pages at a time to prevent jamming but I have loaded more without problems. If it jams it is easy to fix and not a big deal to scan again. If you are wanting to scan huge files, you may want a machine capable of holding a large amount of paper so that you don't have to sit and keep feeding it. Overall a basic wonderful scanner.

The Amazon listing says, "You can also scan to a shared folder, email server, or FTP, to save, distribute, and share information."After pulling my hair out for hours trying to figure out how to get it to scan to a shared folder, I found this in the manual: "Scan to Network allows you to scan documents directly to a shared folder." However, it also says "ADS-1500W/ADS-1600W only".I purchased this scanner for the purpose of scanning to my network storage device, and apparently it was false advertising that it is capable of doing so.It is difficult to overstate how bad the software is that comes with the scanner. Even though I'm running Windows 8.1, it looks like it was designed for Windows 95. It also feels like it was designed for Windows 95, in that it is a horrible flashback to the era before programmers started trying to make their software easy to use for regular people.When I initially set up the scanner, I plugged it in via USB. Even though most of the time I'd want to use it at home on WiFi, I thought that sometimes I might want to take it out with me to scan with it directly attached to my computer. After getting it working on USB, I then tried to get it working on my WiFi.Once everything ist installed, to get started, you launch a program called Brother Utilities. This program is bizarrely pointless, as it seems to only exist so you can click a link in it to launch ControlCenter4, the actual software.Once you open ControlCenter4, you're greeted with 3 tabs: Scan, Device Settings, and Support. When you enter Device Settings, you have three options, Remote Setup (which brings up a settings page), Scan to PC Settings (which brings up the exact same settings page, only highlighting a different setting), and Device Scan Settings (which brings up some more settings related to scanning on a different page). In addition, on the top of the window, there is also a Configuration button, which also brings up other options.In order to set it up on WiFi, you need to click an additional button titled Scan to Net Settings, but if you initially set it up in the installer using USB, this is just not present, with nothing to indicate what the problem is. After hours of pulling out my hair, I finally discovered this issue and uninstalled and reinstalled in WiFi mode to get the WiFi working.At first, it couldn't find my WiFi network. It turns out that even though it supports 802.11n, it only supports it on the older 2.4GHz band, so I had to go into my router and change my entire network from the better performing newer 5GHz band so that my scanner would work.Now, the WiFi works now to scan to the specific computer I installed the software on, but it no longer works over USB plugged into my computer. Guess you can't have your cake and eat it too. And it still doesn't scan to a shared folder like it says it does in the product description, it can only send the document to the computer with the software installed on it.Another point that wasn't clear to my from the description is that the scanner has no OCR capabilities on its own. It can just be set up to send the scan to OCR software you install on your computer. This means that any scans made with USB keys plugged directly into the scanner will not have OCR.
